In terms of the Chinese zodiac, 2022 is the Year of the Tiger. And being big cat lovers we can definitely get behind that. Whether you want to interpret it as a sign to unleash your inner tiger, add a pet Toyger to the family (yep, it’s a real thing!) or celebrate with your fave feline at home is up to you.

The Year of the Tiger started on 1 February. So if you’re welcoming a human baby this year, their Chinese zodiac sign will be the tiger. You can expect a bold and adventurous kid!

Year of the Water Tiger

There are twelve Chinese zodiac signs, and each year brings a new one. So the last Year of the Tiger was 12 years ago, in 2010. Simple.

But there’s also another layer to the zodiac. Each sign has five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. For example, last year was the Year of the Metal Ox. In 2022, we’re celebrating the Year of the Water Tiger. Depending on what year you were born in, you’ll have not only an animal but also an element. So you could be a wood goat or a water rat. Or something sliiiightly more appealing, like a fire tiger.

Year of the Toyger (seriously!)

It’s already Year of the Tiger, so why not year of the Toyger too. And no, that isn’t a pronunciation error!

“What is a Toyger?” we hear you ask. The Toyger is a normal house cat with a twist – they’ve been bred to look like a toy tiger. Seriously. Just look at them:

Toygers are bred by combining the gorgeous Bengal cat with other cats to create your very own mini tiger. As you can imagine, they don’t come cheap though. If you’re dead set on adding a tiny tiger to your household, you’re going to need to part with a pretty penny. Think in the region of $2,000 and up.

Worth it? Only you can decide – but a Toyger would be a super cute addition to almost any household.

If you’re more about affordable investments, you should consider looking into a cat insurance plan. PD Insurance customers love how fast, easy and reliable our service is, from claim to settlement. Your cat is valuable, whether they’re a fancy Toyger or a rescued tabby – and protecting their health is paramount.
