Chinese New Year 2022 is on 1 February 2022. Though it’s not always on the same date every year. In 2021 it was 12 February and in 2023 it’s going to be on 22 January.

Chinese New Year begins on the second new moon after the winter solstice. That’s why it’s also known as the lunar new year or spring festival. It literally follows the moon’s orbit around earth. It’s a bit like Easter Sunday, which is always on the first full moon in spring.
